North East England makes mega impact on Capital

Three huge banners showing North East England in all its glory are set to wow commuters in London over the next two months.

The “Passionate people. Passionate places” mega banners will be launched on February 26th and will be on display in three prominent locations in the capital.

Part of the Regional Image campaign, the adverts promote North East England as an excellent place to do business, live, work, study and visit.

Each one depicts a different aspect of life in the region from business to pleasure with the use of stunning photography.

        

The three banners include portraits of Colin Baldwin, a kite surfer from Northumberland; Dr Sharon Stephens, programme manager at Avecia Biotechnology in Billingham, Tees Valley; Wayne Edy, managing director of Inov-8 in Wolsingham, County Durham as well as stunning images of Bamburgh Castle, Hartlepool Marina and Weardale.

Each one depicts a different aspect of life in the region from business to pleasure and will be on display for two weeks each until April 8th.

The first banner, measuring 10mx10m, shows Colin and Bamburgh Castle and will go up at Great Eastern Street in the heart of the city where approximately 35,000 cars pass every day.

This will be followed by a 12mx20m banner of Dr Stephens and Hartlepool Marina, which will be installed on the busy Aldgate roundabout at City Gateway from March 12th and will be visible from 100m away.

Then on March 26th a final 12mx12m banner showing Wayne Edy, managing director of Inov-8 and Weardale, will go up at Mansell Street near Tower Bridge on the route to London’s financial district.

Wayne, who launched the Inov-8 brand in 2003 which has now become the fastest growing off-road running brand in the UK, said: “The ‘Passionate people. Passionate places’ campaign has been very good for generating awareness about the region and us.

“These banners are a great opportunity to continue to increase our exposure and that of North East England.”

Stacy Hall, Director of Communications at One NorthEast said: “The mega banners are a high profile, innovative way of promoting the region to a wider audience.

“We’ve chosen these locations because of the extremely high viewing potential among financial and creative decision makers in the city.

“This will help emphasise the importance of business within the Regional Image campaign as well as raising the profile of North East England to encourage the commuters of London to come and find out about the region for themselves.”

It is the first time that adverts of this size for the region will have been seen in London.  They form part of an on-going media campaign, which includes TV advertising, adverts in national newspapers and magazines, branded taxis, large format posters on the London Underground, as well as branding in our regional airports and at London Heathrow.

According to research, the “Passionate people. Passionate places” campaign is already making an impact. The results show that nationally exposure to the campaign doubles the number of people who say they know a great deal or a fair amount about North East England and twice as many people who have seen the campaign speak highly of the region unprompted.
